How should effective online team building be structured? How long does it take? Which team topics are suitable – and which are not?
Essentially, “team building” refers to all measures designed to improve relationships within a team. The aim is to increase its productivity. As a rule, there is a team-building impulse, i.e. an activating, entertaining element such as a quiz, a construction, delegation, planning or communication task. This immediately reveals the strengths of the individual participants. This can be followed by a phase of reflection, either together as a team, as a silent exercise for each individual or at team management level.
The type of impulse chosen depends on the challenges your team faces in real working life: building trust, solving problems better or making decisions more efficiently, communication and planning – these aspects can be addressed well in team building.
Online team building requires even more conscious communication, moderation and a structured approach to create a positive atmosphere and a sense of closeness. This is an important insight for remote working, i.e. digital collaboration across geographical boundaries.
Good documentation is also important, as text information is exchanged. Good online team building also makes extensive use of short video sequences.
