Soccer team building with real learning benefits

How does your team make decisions under pressure? Who communicates clearly – and who acts independently? In Team11, each team builds its own star eleven with a transfer budget and competes against each other in a tournament. The result: maximum fun – and noticeable moments of insight into cooperation, resilience and communication.

This is how Team 11 works – Draft. Duel. Dialogue.

Arrive, find your roles and start playing together

To kick things off, we briefly introduce all participants to the topic: Team 11 is a soccer tournament, but above all, it shows how teams make decisions, communicate, and stick together under pressure. Roles are assigned within the teams (e.g. coach, sports director, scout, analyst, active players) so that it is clear from the outset who is responsible for what and how decisions are made. A short warm-up with a soccer-related mini-impulse (e.g., goal wall budget boost) provides energy, initial successes, and immediately reveals how coordination and motivation work within the team.

Transfer market: Budget becomes strategy, and strategy becomes teamwork

Then the transfer window opens: each team receives a fixed budget and uses it to put together its own starting eleven plus substitutes. At the players’ table, discussions take place, considerations are weighed up, priorities are set, and this is where the first strong team moments arise: What is more important to us, star power or balance? Do we take risks or do we play it safe? In addition, teams can trade or swap players within clearly defined time slots. This makes negotiation skills, communication style, and cooperation immediately tangible – without it feeling like “training.”

Tournament phase: Card duels meet action, and every decision counts

In the tournament phase, each team plays against the others in league mode. Each match consists of several duels in which the teams decide tactically whether to focus on attack or defence. The values of the cards played determine who comes out on top in the duel – but the game doesn’t just stay at the table: the losing side can fight back via a short, soccer-related team game and defend against or equalize a goal. This creates a dynamic mix of strategy, pace, and emotion: teams experience firsthand how clear communication, role allocation, and a “next action” mentality make all the difference.

Fair play, championship, and learning transfer: Fun turns into a real team update

A professional referee framework ensures fair play and makes responsibility visible: clear rules, respectful communication, and clean behavior count, just as they do in everyday working life. At the end, the results and table are evaluated, and in a moderated debriefing, we translate the experience into concrete insights: How did you deal with setbacks? Where did communication speed you up—and where did it slow you down? What patterns in cooperation and decision-making did you recognize? From this, we derive 1–2 realistic team commitments that can be directly transferred to everyday life. (If Team 11 is booked as Level 1, this part is deliberately kept short or omitted—then the focus is on the experience.)

Team 11 is structured in such a way that you don’t just “work your way through a training session,” but actually experience team behavior in the game. Through the transfer market, tournament pressure, and short team challenges, it immediately becomes clear how you make decisions, communicate, and work together—and what makes you strong in the process.

Your added value with Team 11

During the event, typical situations from everyday working life arise automatically: time pressure, incomplete information, differing opinions, minor setbacks—and the desire to win. This is precisely where the added value comes from:

  • Cooperation becomes visible and controllable: Who takes the lead, who connects, who provides security? You quickly realise which roles help you—and where coordination is lacking.
  • Communication becomes clearer (and shorter): Tempo shows whether announcements are precise, whether you are really listening, and how well you can agree on a common line.
  • Resilience can be trained—without feeling like therapy: A lost duel, a goal conceded, or a referee’s decision is not the end, but the starting point for adaptation: reset, new decision, next action.
  • Decision-making quality improves: you balance data (game values), experience, and gut feeling—and learn to prioritize more quickly while still working together.
  • Conflicts are used constructively: negotiations, exchanges, and different strategies cause friction—but within a safe framework where fairness and rules apply.
  • Motivation and team spirit increase: The tournament format generates energy, humor, and shared experiences—which continue to have an impact on the team even after the event is over.

Team 11 is BITOU Level 2

Team11 is located in Level 2 because it goes far beyond a classic team event. The format combines the energy of a tournament with clear reflections and makes it visible in the game how teams work together: Who takes responsibility? How are decisions made? What happens when pressure, pace, and competition increase?

Not just fun—but concrete learning:
In the transfer market, tactical duels, and short team challenges, teams experience firsthand how communication works when things have to happen quickly, how resilient they are in responding to setbacks, and how effective cooperation really is. In the moderated debrief, the experience is translated into practical insights—with a transfer that can be directly applied in everyday work.

BITOU Level 2 is particularly suitable for:

  • when teams want to noticeably improve their collaboration and communication
  • For offsites, conferences, or kick-offs where motivation and content are equally important
  • When team building should not only bring people together, but also develop behavior and processes further

Those who want to delve deeper can further expand their knowledge in Level 3 formats such as On Thin Ice – for sustainable development and long-term impact.

Smart combinations (optional)

If you want more depth or fun, Team 11 can be customized to suit your needs:

  • as a kick-off for a communication or feedback workshop
  • as a team development component with a focus on cooperation/resilience
  • or as a Level 1 Fun version if you are primarily interested in excitement, games, and enjoyment (with a short debrief or no debrief)
