Many conferences take place indoors for hours on end. Presentations, workshops, meetings – at some point, your mind needs a break and your body needs some exercise.
This is exactly where the Smart Nature Challenge comes in. It takes participants outdoors and transforms the natural environment into an interactive playing field. Armed with tablets, the teams navigate a predefined area, search for coordinates and complete tasks there that are specifically focused on nature, wildlife, flora and the outdoor experience.

Welcome & Nature Briefing – The Start of the Challenge
To begin with, the BITOU facilitator welcomes all participants and explains how the Smart Nature Challenge works. The teams learn how to use the tablet to find coordinates, access tasks and collect points. At the same time, the activity area is explained so that everyone knows the boundaries of the area they will be exploring.
Excitement is already building in this initial phase: the participants realise that they are not just ‘going for a walk’, but are embarking together on an active nature challenge. Teams are now formed, tablets handed out and initial strategies discussed: Which direction shall we take? Which tasks look particularly promising? And how will we manage to get back in time?
Nature becomes a playground – finding coordinates and solving puzzles
Once the event has started, the teams set off. On their tablets, they see various coordinates, each of which hides a task. In this version, much of the focus is on nature-related themes: flora and fauna, observation tasks, quiz questions, photo missions or creative tasks that actively involve the surrounding environment.
Sometimes it’s about looking closely. Sometimes the team has to combine their knowledge. Sometimes it involves a fun photo or video mission where a scene from nature is re-enacted. This makes the surroundings themselves part of the event – and a walk through the woods, fields or village becomes a shared experience.
Working as a team – strategy, dialogue and a spirit of discovery
During the challenge, it is not just speed that determines success. A shared strategy is far more important. Which coordinate is worth visiting? Which task yields the most points? How much time is left? And when is the right moment to start heading back?
This is precisely where the team-building effect comes into play: participants consult with one another, make decisions and experience working in a small team outside their usual work context. BITOU remains available throughout. Messages can be sent via the app, and the project management team can support teams via chat or by phone if required. In addition, GPS tracking helps to keep track of the teams.
Return & Prize-giving Ceremony – Bringing Shared Experiences to Life
Once the game time is up, all teams return to the agreed meeting point. There, the results are analysed and the winning team is announced. But the finale isn’t just about scores: things really come to life when everyone watches the photos and videos taken together.
Then the whole group can see how differently the teams tackled the tasks, what creative ideas emerged and which moments were particularly funny. It is precisely this shared review that ensures the Smart Nature Challenge doesn’t simply come to an end – but remains in everyone’s minds as a shared experience.

The Smart Nature Challenge falls under Level 1 – Classic Team Event. This level is about bringing teams together, generating energy and creating a shared experience.
The format is particularly suitable when a team needs a light-hearted, active and bonding experience. It is not about intensive reflection, but about energising the team and sharing positive experiences.
At the same time, initial observations can come to light: Who takes the lead? Who thinks strategically? Who motivates the team? Who keeps an eye on the time and the objective? If these dynamics are to be explored in greater depth later on, they can be built upon using formats from Level 2 or Level 3.
