The cost of a team event can vary greatly depending on the type of event and the level of effort involved. In Germany, there is generally a tax-free allowance of €110 per employee per event. If the budget per person remains below this limit, the team event can remain exempt from income tax as a company event. This amount of €110 covers all costs, such as food, drinks, venue hire, the event programme and any travel expenses that may arise. Important: This allowance applies per person and per event. If the expenditure per person exceeds this amount, the excess must be taxed as a monetary benefit. Up to two company events per year (e.g. summer party and Christmas party) are tax-free. In short, this means: Expenditure of up to €110 per person (gross) for a team event is unproblematic and fully tax-deductible; any amount above this is subject to tax if the employer covers the costs.
