The interactive scavenger hunt around your venue
Not every occasion lends itself to an outdoor event. Sometimes the weather is unpredictable, the schedule is tight, or the venue itself already offers plenty of opportunities for activity and exploration.
The Smart Indoor Challenge makes the most of precisely this setting: participants move through the indoor areas of the venue, searching for QR codes placed in picture frames or at designated stations. Behind each code lies a task, a puzzle, a photo or video mission, or a team challenge.
Event schedule – Search, scan, solve and win together
Welcome & Indoor Briefing – The venue becomes the playing field
To begin with, the BITOU facilitator welcomes all participants and explains how the challenge will work. The teams learn how to use the tablet, how to find and scan QR codes, and how to collect points.
This is where the first element of the game comes into play: the participants may be familiar with the venue as a conference centre, hotel or office block – but suddenly it becomes a playing field. Corridors, adjoining rooms, foyers and communal areas take on a new significance. Now it’s all about paying close attention, searching cleverly and quickly developing a strategy as a team.
The search begins – discover QR codes and unlock tasks
Once the game has started, the teams make their way through the pre-defined areas of the venue. Unlike in outdoor versions, they do not head to specific GPS coordinates, but actively search for hidden QR codes. These are placed around the venue and must be scanned using a tablet to unlock the relevant task.
Behind the QR codes lie a variety of task formats: quiz questions, puzzles, creative photo and video missions, or small team tasks. This creates a blend of exploration, critical thinking and spontaneous creativity. The teams must decide where to look, which tasks to tackle first and how to make the best use of their time.
Team phase – strategy, communication and shared ambition
During the challenge, it quickly becomes clear that simply setting off isn’t enough. The teams must coordinate, assign roles and work together to work out how to score as many points as possible. Who will search? Who will scan? Who will read the task? Who will think creatively? Who will keep an eye on the time?
This creates a special dynamic, particularly in an indoor setting. Distances are shorter, encounters with other teams are more frequent, and the competitive spirit is palpable. At the same time, BITOU remains available throughout the event and can provide support with the game structure, send messages or help with any questions.
Final & Prize-giving Ceremony – When the best moments come to life
Once the game time is up, all teams gather again at the agreed meeting point. The results are analysed, the winning team is announced, and the highlights of the challenge are reviewed together.
The photos and videos taken during the event really bring the finale to life. The teams get to see how other groups tackled the tasks, what creative ideas emerged and which situations provoked the most laughter. It is precisely this shared review that makes the Indoor Challenge more than just a game – it becomes an experience that people will still be talking about long after the event is over.
Classification within the BITOU 4-level system
The Smart Indoor Challenge is part of Level 1 – Classic Team Event – of the BITOU 4-Level System. This level is all about bringing teams together, generating energy and creating a shared experience.
This format is particularly suitable when a team needs a sense of light-heartedness, dynamism and connection – but needs to remain within the existing venue. It is not about in-depth reflection, but about energising the team, having fun and sharing moments of success.
Nevertheless, initial patterns may begin to emerge: Who provides direction? Who thinks strategically? Who contributes creative ideas? Who motivates the team? If these dynamics are to be explored in greater depth later on, Level 2 or Level 3 formats can be used to build on them.
The benefits of the Smart Indoor Challenge at a glance:
✔ Stimulation despite the indoor setting: Participants get moving without the event having to be moved outdoors. This provides a fresh burst of energy, particularly after long conference sessions.
✔ Not affected by the weather and reliable for planning purposes: Rain, cold weather or uncertain weather forecasts are no obstacle. The event remains flexible and can take place directly at the existing venue.
✔ The venue is being reimagined: Corridors, foyers and adjoining rooms suddenly become part of the performance. This creates a different perspective on the venue and adds a sense of dynamism to the space.
✔ Promotes team communication and strategy: The teams need to coordinate their efforts, prioritise tasks and decide together how best to use their time.
✔ Lots of fun thanks to creative tasks: Photo and video sessions bring humour, a light-hearted atmosphere and plenty of shared memories to the event.
✔ Ideal for cross-functional teams: Teams can be deliberately organised in such a way that people who have little contact with one another in their day-to-day work are brought together. This fosters communication across departments.
✔ Customisable: Company-related topics, your own missions or location-based content can be incorporated to ensure the challenge is even more tailored to the occasion.
What our customers say

The Smart Indoor Challenge as part of the BITOU event tour
The Smart Indoor Challenge is a classic Level 1 format. It energises participants, gets people moving and creates a positive shared experience. The focus is deliberately on fun, competition and connection – without any in-depth analysis or training elements.
From here, the team’s journey can continue in various ways:
- Level 1 – Classic team event:
The Smart Indoor Challenge provides energy, exercise and shared memories. Those who wish to remain indoors can follow this up with a Team Olympics, which can also be held indoors. - Level 2 – Intelligent team-building:
If the aim is to make collaboration more visible afterwards, the Chain Reaction XXL is an ideal choice. Here, the focus is less on competing against one another and more on the shared goal. - Level 3 – Team Development:
If specific development issues arise from the experience, formats such as Adventure Everest or On Thin Ice can follow on from it. - Level 4 – Team Coaching:
For teams facing specific challenges or change-related issues, bespoke team coaching can be the next logical step.
In this way, an energising indoor challenge can, if required, serve as the starting point for a more in-depth team journey.
