At full gallop towards a shared sense of victory
The horse race is a classic team event combining competition, strategy and plenty of live excitement. In small teams, the participants decide before each race how they want to proceed: should they make their own horse stronger? Should they back the favourite? Or is it worth carrying out a bit of sabotage against another team? It is precisely this mix of tactics, gut instinct and collective decision-making that makes the format so entertaining.

Event schedule – Six races, plenty of decisions and a joint finish

Welcome & Race Fever – The run-up begins

To begin with, the BITOU facilitator welcomes the group and introduces them to the world of horse racing. The participants are divided into small teams, familiarise themselves with the game interface and see how the races will later be followed on the screen. The rules are deliberately kept simple so that everyone can get into the game quickly.

The first sense of excitement arises right from the start: each team is given the chance to agree on their approach and prepare for the races. Who is more willing to take risks? Who thinks strategically? Who is watching the other teams particularly closely? What starts as a simple introduction quickly turns into a shared sense of the race.

Strategy phase – train, bet or sabotage?

Before each race, the teams make their decisions. They can train their own horse, place bets on horses or try to sabotage opposing teams. It is precisely these choices that make every round different: sometimes it is wise to strengthen your own horse. Sometimes a bold bet pays off. And sometimes a tactical disruption decides the outcome of the race.

The teams hold a brief discussion, weigh up the chances and risks, and decide together. This immediately sparks a lively exchange: Which horses look strong? What strategy are the others pursuing? Do we stick to our plan or change tack? In this way, the game becomes a dynamic team process – without lengthy analysis, but with lots of small decisions.

Race laps & live excitement – it’s all down to the home straight now

Then the races begin. All the teams watch the animated 3D racing world on the screen and find themselves caught up in the excitement. Suddenly, a quick decision turns into a truly emotional moment: there’s cheering, laughter, hope and sometimes even loud celebrations when their own horse surges ahead at just the right moment.

After each lap, the teams can readjust their strategy. Was the bet too risky? Did the training pay off? Was another team underestimated? This is precisely what keeps the horse racing exciting throughout all six races. It’s not just about making a single good decision, but about constantly observing, reacting and improving together.

Final & Prize-giving Ceremony – Who will win the race?

After the final race, the team that has performed most successfully is announced. The tension comes to a head at the prize-giving ceremony: the winning team is celebrated, particularly bold decisions are revisited, and the group shares a moment of closure together.

Precisely because the horse race is short, light-hearted and dynamic, it sticks in the memory. It is ideal for injecting energy into the room after an intense session, rounding off a day on a relaxed note, or combining a meeting with a shared highlight.

Online horse racing – racing fever for remote teams too

The horse race is also available as an online team event. In this format, all participants meet in a shared virtual room. The facilitator guides the game, the teams coordinate their strategies in breakout rooms and then watch the races together in the main meeting.

Online, the basic concept remains the same: before each round, the teams decide whether they want to train, place bets or sabotage other teams. Each race begins with a brief overview of the course, after which the teams spend around four minutes discussing and finalising their strategy. Everyone then returns to the main meeting to watch the race together.

This format is particularly well-suited to remote teams, as it quickly creates a lively atmosphere and ensures participants aren’t just sitting quietly in front of their screens. There’s discussion, advice, cheering and shared celebrations.

Classification within the BITOU 4-level system

The horse race is a Level 1 – Classic Team Event within the BITOU 4-level system.
At this level, the focus is on fun, energy, a sense of togetherness and shared experiences. Level 1 is all about experience and connection – ideal for kick-offs, celebrations or team-building days.

The horse race fits perfectly into this category: it quickly brings people together in a playful way, generates excitement and creates shared moments of celebration. It is deliberately accessible and requires no deep reflection. Nevertheless, it can highlight subtle team dynamics: Who thinks strategically? Who takes risks? Who keeps an eye on the competition? And how does the team make decisions together?

Anyone wishing to explore these topics in greater depth later on can continue with Level 2. There, the experience evolves into intelligent team-building with a stronger focus on communication and collaboration.

The added value of horse racing at a glance:

✔ Quick activation without lengthy preparation: The horse race is quick to explain and easy to play. It’s particularly suitable when you want an event to be short, simple and yet exciting.

✔ Cheering on the team together: The races are watched on the big screen, so that all teams are involved in the action at the same time. This creates a shared sense of excitement rather than separate, parallel small groups.

✔ Team decisions under time pressure: Before each race, the teams must decide together which strategy to adopt. This encourages discussion, coordination and joint action.

✔ Strategy and risk appetite: Train, bet or sabotage: every option has its opportunities and risks. This encourages a playful approach to tactics, courage and decision-making.

✔ An entertaining format suitable for many occasions: Lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, the horse race is ideal for meetings, team sessions, breaks, company parties or evening events.

✔ Low barrier to entry: No sporting ability, prior knowledge or lengthy preparation is required. Anyone can get involved – whether through ideas, gut instinct or observation.

✔ A competition with a fun factor: The competition creates a sense of excitement, whilst remaining light-hearted and humorous. This generates energy without the pressure to perform taking centre stage.

✔ Also suitable for large groups: The format is designed for groups of between 10 and 500 people and is therefore suitable for both smaller teams and larger corporate events.

What our customers say

Customer reviews

“The horse race was exactly the right activity for our team evening. We got the hang of the rules straight away, everyone was on board immediately, and by the first race at the latest, we were cheering loudly. The mix of strategy, gut instinct and fun was particularly good – by the end, we’d really bonded and were in high spirits together.”
